Kids are Resilient

If the pandemic of 2020 demonstrated anything, it’s that children possess incredible resilience. Through virtual schooling, countless cancelled social activities, missed milestones like prom and graduation, and even full-blown quarantines, children managed to face the uncertainty with incredible courage.

This shouldn’t be surprising, since the phrase “kids are resilient” is one that we hear all the time. It appears in Wall Street Journal articles and in the spoken words of wisdom shared by other parents. Paired with a shrug, it’s an adage that provides comfort to wary caretakers and explanation to astonished onlookers.

The day will come, though, when our children will face adversity and this simple phrase will fall flat.

How can we serve them better in these moments? By sharing the stories of their demonstrated strength and resilience, we can provide our children with confidence that will stick with them in ways that no expression ever could.

Listen in as I share a story about my son’s resilience and explain why telling these stories is so important.
