Cutting the Details
We live in a culture that values brevity, frequently communicating in 140 characters and doing our best to get our message across in 15-second videos.
When you’re storytelling, though, taking the details to the cutting room floor is not always the best strategy.
If you read Stories That Stick, you’ll remember that specific details are one of the four key components to a great story. They allow your audience to relate to you, build trust, and create a deeper connection. The nuances and meticulous points are in the framework of a vibrant story, and removing them can leave you with a generic shell of events and an audience that is wondering, What was the point of that story?
So, if you find yourself feeling as though something is missing from your story, consider revisiting the details that didn’t make the cut.
