It’s Not Me

Have you ever walked into a room and felt immediate tension?

You know the kind I’m talking about—the intense, almost palpable anxiety that you can’t help but notice from the outside. In those uncomfortable moments, our instinct is often to assume that we’ve caused the negative feelings. Did I say something wrong? Are they unsure about me?

Human beings (and women especially) tend to assign the doubts and fears of others to ourselves, even when they have nothing to do with us. When we take ownership of these stories that were never meant to be ours, we burden ourselves with imposter syndrome, insecurity, and a whole host of misplaced negative feelings.

Sound familiar? In this video, I’ll share my own story of doubt, and I’ll walk you through the steps that you can take to fight insecurity during tense moments. Say it with me: “It’s not me. It’s them.”
