Dr Birx, Spanish Flu & The Purpose Story
As U.S. citizens were beginning to come to terms with the drastic measures they were asked to take to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, the government was holding a lot of press conferences.
The White House had press conferences. The state governors had press conferences. The county judges had press conferences. The city mayors had press conferences. People were bombarded by information.
Amidst the deluge of talking heads, one press conference really stood out. Dr. Deborah Birx, a key member of the White House coronavirus task force, urged people to stay home. She, like so many speakers before her, explained that reducing contact with other humans was our only hope. The difference was that she took her message a step farther.
She told a story.
Check out the short video above to learn why exactly Dr. Birx, in just 31 seconds, was SO effective in this situation. (And here is a link to the Business Insider article that includes a link to the video of the speech). If you watch the video all the way to the end, you'll hear me mention the new project I've been working on... the Stories That Stick Mastery Course.
This is my most-advanced storytelling training in digital form. In it, I share tons of real examples — including a full breakdown of what worked (and didn't) in the Dr. Birx story.
